Openbravo Store Server is aimed at mid-sized and large retail organizations that need to implement a flexible cloud solution, one that allows them to deploy Openbravo centrally where practical and/or locally in the store if needed.

The Openbravo Commerce Cloud  solution offers retailers many benefits such as easier external integration, lower cost of ownership, and greater security.

However, there are situations where central deployment is not possible or desirable, in which case local store server deployment can be a solution. This is particularly the case for environments with intermittent and variable network connectivity and bandwidth, or where the system has to handle high transactional and master data volumes.

The Openbravo Store Server has two main purposes. It provides:

  • Uninterrupted POS functionality with full off-line operations and transparent synchronizations;
  • High availability and high performance during peak transaction events such as Black Friday.

A Store Server installed locally in the store offers several benefits:

  • It supports high master data volumes in combination with offline situations;
  • For stores with intermittent or reduced-bandwidth internet connections, it guarantees performance and system resilience;
  • Load balancing for locations with many (a hundred or more) terminals in a store.

The current solution supports the following architecture:

  • A central server instance
  • One or more store server instances

The Openbravo Store Server solution is flexible in that you can choose to install it in specific stores, while hosting other stores directly from the central server.

It incorporates additional features designed to further boost robustness.

For example, Openbravo Store Server now supports very large master data volumes through a new concept called remote data sources.  In addition, a fail-over service layer allows the Openbravo WebPOS client to operate with multiple servers, automatically and transparently switching over from one server to another if a server is not available.

With Openbravo Store Server, Openbravo is moving towards a much more distributed architecture supported by a micro-services approach.

In summary, Openbravo Store Server offers big benefits, especially for our larger retail customers and it demonstrates once again how Openbravo is always at the forefront on innovation.
