The value of activating my Openbravo Professional Edition

The other day I was with Mark, the CEO of an Openbravo Certified Partner and I was quite surprise to see Mark quite annoyed. When I asked him what was going on, Mark told me he was a kind of mad at Roger, one of his Openbravo practice team members. He told me: “we are almost at the end of the project and Roger had not yet activated the Openbravo Professional Edition! Can you believe it?!”


Then of course it all made sense… Openbravo Professional Edition, as everybody knows, provides:
1. Exclusive functionality
2. Warranties
3. Implementation services provided by accredited Openbravo Partners
Professional Editions allows you to implement Openbravo at the lowest cost because you save the time to 1) develop functionality which is already available, 2) receive and install defect fixes and other required updates and 3) execute Quality Assurance tasks within your implementation project.
Additionally, Openbravo Professional Edition allows you to get the maximum business benefits for the end user, since it empowers you to focus on the business goals of the implementation rather than the technology.


Now… all these benefits can only be enjoyed as soon as one activates the Professional Edition by introducing the corresponding Entitlement Key. Thus, coming back to our friends Mark and Roger… Mark realized that Roger had spend a lot of time during the project implementation doing technical developments and adjustments that Openbravo Professional Edition had already delivered through exclusive functionality and Maintenance Packs distributed through the standard Central Repository. Roger also felt so bad when he realized he could have solved his customer's needs in just minutes instead of investing several days.


And that is why I am writing today this post. I don’t want anybody else to go through the same mistake as Mark and Roger did! Business is hard enough to make it even more complicated ourselves, isn’t it?


If you are a user of Openbravo, you should consider cutting your total cost of ownership and adopt Openbravo Professional Edition.


If you are an ERP professional providing implementation services on Openbravo, you should consider applying to the Openbravo Partner program and start delivering more value at a lower cost to your customers.


Most importantly, if you have already acquired your Professional Edition subscription, you should remember to activate your instance. We have designed the activation process to be easy and to allow an easy transition from Community Edition from Professional Edition, starting from the same code line and with no need to re-install the software. However, you will not enjoy the full benefits of Professional Edition unless you activate your instance.


Our recommendation is not to postpone activation as you will need the benefits of Professional Edition the most at the early stages of your implementation process.
1. You should activate your Openbravo Professional Edition as a first step in your implementation project. Why wait to start enjoying the benefits of your subscription?
2. Make sure to choose the right instance type for your system, choosing either Development, Testing or Production depending on the usage.
3. As a best practice for agile implementations, we recommend that you setup your production instance first and to clone your testing and development instances as a copy of that. That way you can ensure that your system is always ready for your end users and you do not postpone deployment issues to the critical go live date.


Remember: Professional Edition brings the benefits of open source innovation within reach of every organization and it is the best way to maximize the return of your Openbravo investment. Don't forget to activate yours today!

Congratulations to “Partner of the Year 2010” Award winners!

This week Openbravo announced the winners of its “Partner of the Year 2010” Awards.  As Openbravo’s Vice President of Channels, I will write my first blog post to highlight this occasion, and to congratulate all involved.


This is a very special moment for many of us within the Openbravo Ecosystem.


First, it is a special moment for all the award-winning partners, as it is the recognition for their talent in so many different ways. Although each winner achieved success in his part of the world in different ways, they all share two key characteristics:  passion and dedication to Openbravo.

Second, it is a very special moment also for the rest of the Openbravo partner network. While each of our Partners is a success story in itself, winners are the evidence and the testimonial that we are walking a successful business path.


Finally, it is also a very special moment for all the Channel Team at Openbravo that I am leading. Our mission is to lead all partners to success. Award-winners reminds us we can achieve it with the same keys: passion and dedication.
